Seit jeher ist Hiddensee ein Sehnsuchtsort der Freiheit. Der Film nimmt uns mit auf eine Reise durch ein ganzes Jahrhundert bis in die goldenen 1920er und verwebt dabei Landschaft, Geschichte und Schicksale zu einem faszinierenden Porträt. Dabei ist die Ostseeinsel damals wie heute gezeichnet von den politischen Verwerfungen, die sich im ganzen Land abspielen.
